This week's topic is stillness.
Could the stillness we search for in faraway places be quietly present in the pause between each breath?
Ayurveda teaches that our inner world mirrors nature. Like a lake stirred by wind, mental turbulence such as anxiety, anger, or sluggishness can cloud our inner clarity.
Each of the three doshas, when imbalanced, stirs the mind in different ways:
- Vata scatters with anxiety and overthinking
- Pitta inflames with irritation and judgment
- Kapha dulls with lethargy and inertia
Yet stillness isn’t far. It begins with simple, mindful choices: Eating fresh food prepared with love, aligning with daily rhythms, stepping outside to touch the earth, or simply pausing to breathe.
Stillness is the presence of undistracted, unafraid awareness.
And that awareness? It’s you.
WEEKLY MICRO PRACTICE
Wake up with the sun (or earlier) – Let natural light be your first input of the day. Try stepping outside within 30 minutes of waking for a few deep breaths.
Step outside barefoot – Stand on grass, dirt, or sand and notice the sensations. Let your feet feel the support of the earth as you take slow, mindful breaths.
Eat one meal in silence today – Put away your phone, turn off the TV, and simply sit with your food. Focus on the texture, temperature, and flavors in each bite.
